Brian Kowalski is a social science research specialist in the Bureau of Research and Evaluation at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.  He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University.  His broader research interests surround prison misconduct, recidivism, and police/citizen encounters.  Some of his prior work has appeared in Corrections Today, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, and Research in Social Stratification and Mobility.  His agency work mostly involves prison and jail operations-related research.  Some current projects include restrictive housing reform initiatives, assessing the impact of prison contextual factors on inmate misconduct, and studying the relationship among static and dynamic risk scores, prison misconduct, and recidivism.
